Movie News of the Week:

  • Michelle Rodriquez returns for Resident Evil 5:

So a few days ago I found out that Resident Evil 5 is now returning for another sequel, titled Resident Evil: Retribution, which will be bringing even more of what fans want in terms of characters from the actual games. The fourth installment, Resident Evil: Afterlife", actually included some of the original characters from the Resident Evil franchise: Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts), Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller), and Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) came out during the film.
It is now being said that Michelle Rodriquez has signed on to reprise her Resident Evil role as special forces operative, Rain Ocampo. Rodriquez charater isnt the only one returning, Colin Salmon is also making a return appearance as James "One" Shade, the leader of the Commandos from the first Resident Evil.
Previous reports have also said, franchise character Leon Scott Kennedy will finally get his chance to shine on the silver screen. I am beyond excited. Leon has been my favorite out of ALL the franchise videogame characters. I'm finally happy to see that they'll be putting him within the movie, even though we've waited five films to see him, I hope it's a well deserved live-action debut. Rumors and fan desires point towards Supernatural star Jensen Ackles playing the character but no one has been announced for the role as of yet – that would be a good rumor to come true.

  • Universal Planning "Scarface" Remake:

Universal is planning to produce a new "Scarface" film, but the movie wont be a direct remake of the Original 1932 film (right photo) or the famour 1983 Al Pacino film (left photo). I'm not sure if I like this idea, yet again I can't say anything until I see it.

"Each [of the previous films] were crime sagas telling the rise and fall of a gangster, and each was a mirror of their time. The 1932 version was set in Chicago and featured bootlegging, Italians and Irish mobsters. The 1983 version was set in Latin-loving Miami and cocaine was the vice of choice.

The new Scarface is planned to be the same: a crime tale set in today’s world, offering a dark look at the American Dream."
What do you guys think of the development of the new 'Scarface' film for a new generation?

  • Captain America 2 and the future of Marvel films

With Marvel Studios already having two blockbuster superhero films this year to introduce 'Captain America' and 'Thor' ----- which are the remaining core characters of the upcoming film, The Avengers (Summer 2012). The Playlist spoke to him about the role and his 6-picture contract (3 Captain America movies + 3 Avengers movies) it is highly unlikely for him to cameo in other movies and that because of that, he likely won’t be seen as Steve Rogers again until Captain America debuts – likely in 2014 as everyone expected.

Chris Evans stated:
“They may wait until 2014 until they release the next Cap. Marvel has a lot of balls in the air, they aren’t going to cannibalize their films… Out of those six films, if I pop up in one of those [other films], it counts as part of the deal. So if they needed me in a third Cap, and I say, ‘F*** you, give me $30 million,’ well…they want to avoid that.”

If Captain America 2 takes one of Marvel’s two 2014 release dates, that leaves one left for what will be either Ant-Man or The Avengers 2. So when will audiences get an opportunity to see Dr. Strange, Luke Cage, Iron First, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy? Do they realistically even have a shot? Perhaps they’ll be utilized for television programs or short films.

How should Marvel plan their release schedule in the coming years?
